I learned to value friends and the impact they have on our life. Especially those who practice prayer and their commitment to pray for Mom.
I posted the following on face book “Pray for Betty Jean”
Prior to her surgery, they let us all go in one by one while she was in the holding area. Her spirits were really good. She was smiling and in a really good mood. She was joking about how my Dad is always reading and preaching about “get rich on the obvious”. She said, “If it’s so obvious, why aren’t we rich!!” We were teasing her by trying to teach her hand codes on how to communicate when she can’t talk, has tubes down her throat, on oxygen, and hooked up to every machine imaginable.
We went to see her when she was barely coming out of anesthesia. She looked a little like a women who just had her heart ripped out. (Hmmm, oh yeah, she did!) She had tubes down her throat, on oxygen, and as we teased her earlier, was hooked up to every machine imaginable. Her eyes went back and forth looking at Sandy to me, back and forth. We asked her if she was ok, and she nodded yes. We told her the Dr said everything went great and she nodded again. She kept closing her eyes, and then was obvious she was trying hard to stay awake because we were there. We told her we need to let her rest and that we would be back after she got rest and feeling better. We told her a little white lie that they wouldn’t let her have anymore visitors. We thought she might rest better if she knew she wasn’t missing anything. As we went to leave, her arms moved some. She was trying hard to tell us something. I told Sandy to grab her hand and I grabbed the other one. She squeezed are hands really hard. We could hardly pry them to let us leave. Finally we noticed.(Just as we practiced) She was trying to show us the “thumbs up” sign.
Thanks to ALL OF YOU for your prayers. Please keep them coming because we have a tough road ahead. Our family is SO grateful to our friends.
